Hi, I’m Aaron Hawkins, LCMHCA
I’m a therapist who helps those struggling with mental health issues form new behaviors and perspectives that lead to a life worth living.
I love to bring laughter into the session. Sometimes it is nice to see our problems from a different perspective. This is fueled by my family and our love to laugh and bring joy to others. We love to cook amazing meals, and eating them even more! I also love working with my hands around the house and in my woodworking shop.
I spent over ten years in the Navy and learned to be hyper focus when needed, but also that we need to have just as much focus on our own self care. I enjoy spending time with my family and getting couples pedicures, spending time with friends playing various games, or by myself in self-reflection. These are the skills I learned that help me overcome my depression and suicidal ideation when I was a youth. The basics of these ideals are what I hope to pass on to my clients - a life worth living!
Aaron was born in Portland, Oregon. He was raised in Sandy, Oregon near Mt. Hood, sparking a life-long love for any activity that involves mountains and snow. After high school, Aaron served in the Navy on active duty from 2007 to 2018, with eight years in Washington State and served an additional four years in the reserves. He was trained as a Nuclear Machinist Mate, achieving the rank of First-Class Petty Office, Submarine Warfare Qualified. He now resides in North Carolina with his wife and son. Aaron received his bachelor’s in psychology in 2020 from Northwest University in Kirkland, WA. He received his master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University in December 2023.
Aaron welcomes all individuals who are looking for help with their struggles, and is seeking to specialize in therapy for individuals who struggle with suicidal ideation and behaviors. He wants to provide a safe place for individuals to express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions as well as create unique strategies and coping skills to help individuals lead a life worth living. Aaron uses evidence-based interventions to help achieve these goals. He is currently training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), one of the most researched Third-Wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT).
Aaron's counseling experiences include a practicum at a local middle school and three internship semesters at Novant Health Behavioral Health Services in Winston-Salem. His internship included Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization programs in a group format. While there, he also provided individual therapy sessions . Aaron loves spending his free time with his family. He is also a budding woodworker, loves the outdoors, snowboarding, and playing video games with his son. Go Mariners and Seahawks!
